Feeling Accomplished

Do you ever have one of those days where you don’t feel accomplished?

I mean that type of day where no matter how much you get done, there is 10 times more to complete. The days where life is overwhelming. Work. Kids. People. School. Homework. Gym (Sun’s out. Guns out!). Church. Cooking. Cleaning. Laundry. Cutting grass. Shoveling snow. Raking leaves. Birthdays. Holidays.

It’s an Energizer Bunny’s to do list.

Then, there are those days where finishing one task makes you feel like you ran the Boston Marathon in record time. It gives you that sense of satisfaction we all yearn for but rarely get. What is it?

Accomplishment.

These days is rare to feel like you’ve accomplished anything. Americans are overloaded with things to do. The job alone has “other duties as assigned” in the description for this very purpose. It seems as though this translates over to life, and we find ourselves struggling to keep our heads above water. A sense of accomplishment becomes fleeting in this fast-paced world. It eludes our grasp effectively turning life into “what needs to be done” instead of “what I am enjoying.”

This is what it appears.

Accomplishment is only evades you if you let it. We have to take pleasure in the small things, and understand how much we do. Day in and out, we push ourselves simply because we are needed. Mothers. Fathers. Family member. Coworker. You are needed.

So, today, take the time to reflect on all that you’ve completed. Let that feeling of accomplishment hug you, and enjoy the moment.

You’ve done a lot more than you think.

I have those days, and then I have to step back and see things from a different perspective.
